The Catalogue Story
The Story Behind the Catalogues
Realising that Spring ’22 marks the twelfth year of V&V’s journey, we find ourselves gently touching old memories and asking:
“Where did it all begin?”
I remember my very first photoshoot in a professional studio as if it were yesterday.
The simple fact that I was actually going to photograph my collection—not placing a camera on a table and then rushing behind a drawn curtain to pose myself—felt absolutely breathtaking.
The first “batch” of clothes, sewn from my very limited savings, with no idea whether anyone would ever buy them, was one of the biggest sources of excitement and nervousness I had ever felt.
The first catalogue, designed by my husband and me in a Word document…
The first time we bought photo paper and spent the whole night printing three copies on our slow home printer.
The first time we stopped putting catalogue pages into plastic sleeves and took them to a print shop, where they were bound with a spiral.
The first time we allowed ourselves to consider hiring a professional designer.
The first impression of turning the pages of a catalogue that was no longer created only with our limited skills and knowledge.
The first time holding a catalogue in my hands that actually started to resemble a little book…
I’m writing this and smiling.
Because all these memories are still bubbling so vividly in my mind that it feels as though not more than ten years separate those moments from today.
And even stronger is the feeling settling in my heart:
If someone could turn back time and offer me a large amount of money in exchange for skipping all those funny, exhausting little steps…
I would politely refuse.
Long live the life that moves forward in small, steady steps.
V.
