This morning
At the moment when it’s strictly “regular routine time” to put on a jacket and shoes…
She pops back in, eyes wide and round.
“I forgot to cut out the little heart!!!”
She grabs big scissors and starts cutting in a hurry.
Halfway through, she pauses.
“Do!!!!!!” she shouts. “Do you need one?”
“For what?”
“A little heart! I’ll cut one for you quickly. You’ll give it to someone, greet them with love…”
Her quiet brother smiles, saying, “That’s enough… it’s time to go.”
And I can almost see him, walking to school, handing over the morning-cut heart to his sister.
Maybe not perfectly shaped. But very sincere.
Love is simple, like two pennies.
Cut from a sheet of paper in the morning.
Stuck on a cheek with a heart-shaped sticker.
Savored with a brightly decorated “heart cake” with sprinkles.
Waved around with a heart-shaped balloon late at night.
Instantly soothing with a heart-shaped bandage.
It creates small daily miracles.
All you have to do is “store” them in your heart as little feelings.
And even if you don’t celebrate Love Day,
I’d bet you’re collecting little daily loves.
Let today be their birthday.
Small things. Big feelings.
