A tale about the ‘never-sayer

Dedicated to those who NEVER have time.

Once upon a time, there lived a girl named Viktorija.

She dreamed of becoming a lawyer.
Did she ever, even once, think about what fate might actually have in store for her?
NEVER!

Back when she had just gotten married and was looking for a family nest with her husband,
our fairytale V. confidently declared, loud and clear,
that she was a city person,
and that a small apartment was “more than enough” for her life.

And a house—with all the gardening and planting that comes with it—
she would
NEVER
ever need.

Today, pulling out an almost full bucket of newly grown weeds,
she caught herself tending the edge of the yard… without even complaining.

And she had just returned from inspecting her rose bushes full of buds:
“They’ll bloom, my beauties,” she whispered softly and sincerely in her thoughts.

The same woman who once promised she would NEVER miss gardens or vegetable patches.

Many years ago, on a sunny October morning,
that same Viktorija became a mother.

That very day, she swore she would never have more children.
NEVER.

As snow gently fell and January frost tightened its grip,
her arms were filled with her second life gift.

After experiencing “life with two kids” and all its parades of chaos,
she loudly declared left and right that she would NEVER do “this kind of fun” again.

As summer heat faded,
she sat like a little cupcake in her husband’s car
on the way to welcome the third one.

After promising everyone she would NEVER become a mother of many.

On a Sunday evening,
our story’s heroine Viktorija,
after taking baby My out of the bathtub placed in her bedroom—
where she had once said children would
NEVER
bathe…

and would NEVER splash pink foam all over the walls…

was now on her knees,
wiping up puddles:
“Oh mom, somehow the water splashed out.”

While she was cleaning,
before she even managed to dress My,
he happily peed all over the freshly made Sunday bed.

The same bed she had already remade that morning
after the exact same “accident.”

And that very morning, she had firmly told herself
that she would NEVER leave him naked on the bed again.

While dealing with the aftermath of the second accident…
her ears caught the voice of Patricija,
still bathing in the tub she would NEVER use:

“Mom, your bathtub is like a slide!”

Before she could even say “don’t you dare…”
she heard a loud splash
and water landing everywhere—

on the walls that were NEVER supposed to get splashed,
and the floors that were so afraid of water.

I remember it like it was today—
when we were deciding on this interior detail,
I confidently explained that
the kids have their own shower cabin,
and in my bedroom bathroom they would
NEVER organize water attractions.

Wishing you a very good-mood Monday.
On Mondays, the little boutique NEVER works.

P.S. Do you NEVER have time? Especially on Mondays?
But… you read this whole “bedsheet-length” story to the end, didn’t you?

Now you should be smiling.

V.
