Before September 1st
Pa spent half the evening sticking out her tongue, making little hearts for her teachers for tomorrow. She tied them to the invitations, just in case they got lost among all the others. The hearts were clearly handmade. Loved. Colored. Decorated with “portraits.”
When she finished hers, she sneaked over to her brother.
“DAminykai, do you want me to make hearts for your teachers too, with their names?”
Fourth-grader Do shook his head.
“But I’ll paint them.”
“No.”
“I can do it nicely. Colorful.”
“No.”
“I can make them like this—for you holding hands with the teachers.”
“No, don’t need it.”
“I won’t ask for anything in return. I’ll just draw them and tie them to your flowers.”
“No.”
“Well, as you wish. Don’t regret it later, going with just ordinary flowers,” sighed the little sister, waving her own bigger, “decorated” carnations.
Those “bored” big brothers—what a pain.
Sweet dreams, little and big Mamas. I suspect you’re falling asleep in similar moods.
