Not so long ago, while I was working in our little boutique, a passer-by wandered in, curiously peeked inside, looked around, and asked:<\/p>\n
\u2014 Where do you bring them from?<\/p>\n
\u2014 Bring them? \u2014 I still remember being caught completely off guard by that question for the very first time, as if someone had gently hit me with a hammer of surprise.<\/p>\n
\u2014 From Poland? \u2014 the curious lady clarified.<\/p>\n
I shook my head in all four directions of the world.<\/p>\n
And I don\u2019t even remember what speed I spoke at when the words simply poured out:<\/p>\n
We don\u2019t bring them.
\nWe create them.
\nWe sew them.
\nHere.
\nLocally.
\nIn Lithuania.<\/p>\n
Recently, as sewing costs have risen significantly, our inboxes started filling with offers suggesting we \u201cmove\u201d our production to distant countries unfamiliar to us, where labour costs are cheaper than cheap.<\/p>\n
Our eyes widened.<\/p>\n
Definitely cheaper.<\/p>\n
Definitely faster.<\/p>\n
Definitely more pieces produced in the same amount of time.<\/p>\n
But…<\/p>\n
Definitely very far from our \u201cnature\u201d and the beautiful story we have built.<\/p>\n
So, during a \u201cclosed meeting,\u201d we discussed the offers we had received\u2014and every member of the V&V family unanimously shook their heads.<\/p>\n
Better to be more expensive.<\/p>\n
Better to create fewer pieces.<\/p>\n
Better to move a little slower.<\/p>\n
But with the firm knowledge that our clothes are \u201cborn\u201d in the hands of people who are fairly valued, who love what they do, and who take pride in their work.<\/p>\n
I have always been proud that we are a LITHUANIAN brand.<\/p>\n
Purely, wholeheartedly Lithuanian.<\/p>\n
From the very first thought born in a Lithuanian V\u2019s mind…<\/p>\n
To the final touch\u2014the label attached like a medal to a garment by Lithuanian hands.<\/p>\n
Perhaps I was simply celebrating it too quietly.<\/p>\n
From now on, we have decided to celebrate it louder.<\/p>\n
Future collections will be \u201cdecorated\u201d with a sign reminding everyone:<\/p>\n
We are Lithuanians.<\/p>\n
Creating and producing a deeply loved brand…<\/p>\n
in beautiful LITHUANIA.<\/p>\n
