\n\u201cDaughter!\u201d I sweetened the thought when I did the test.
\nAnd from that day, I started dressing myself in the soft pink \u201cV&V\u201d business card of our little family.
\nPlanning how I\u2019d tie ribbons into braids and sew tiny dresses.<\/p>\n
\u201cLittle one, I know how much you want this,\u201d once paused my aunt, slowing my runaway \u201cdaughterly\u201d dreams.
\nShe had once really wanted my husband to have a sister. She followed all the \u201chow to have a girl\u201d advice.<\/p>\n
And so, instead of a sister-in-law, I have a little niece.
\n\u201cStrong male genes in this family,\u201d she shook her head.<\/p>\n

\nAnd if, in the 18th week of pregnancy, the doctor, after thoroughly examining the little inhabitant of my belly, had said she saw something between the legs, I would have asked her to check again.

\nMy feeling, born the moment I saw those second lines that told me I\u2019d have a DAUGHTER, was celebrated on the first day of her life with a headband and \u201cbow,\u201d and now it sits beside me with the name Patricija.<\/p>\n
I love the men in my family.
\nWhat do I mean\u2014I adore them!
\nBut this little lady snuggled beside me is life\u2019s true dessert.<\/p>\n
\u201cHow lucky I am to have you,\u201d I whisper, patting her fluffy hair.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m luckier,\u201d she sparkles back with her eyes.<\/p>\n
If I had been born to a mom who didn\u2019t like going to the spa, who didn\u2019t enjoy massages or swimming, who didn\u2019t have a big cosmetics drawer or all sorts of fragrant bottles\u2014I would have been sadder.<\/p>\n
But I got lucky\u2014we love the same girly little things.
\nMeaning: I am very much her kind of \u201cmom,\u201d\u201d purrs the little lady smiling beside me.<\/p>\n
I hug her even tighter.
\nThough the next day, I\u2019m already scrolling through photos of Mykolas visiting Grandma and asking my husband how Dominykas is doing.
\nHaving a \u201clittle friend,\u201d
\nwith handbags, scented bottles, slow lying down with a book, and \u201crobe-mode\u201d therapy\u2014
\nis a great joy.<\/p>\n
Like a winning lottery ticket pulled out.
\nFor life.<\/p>\n
For the friends and companions that generous fate chose.<\/p>\n
