{"id":17657,"date":"2022-01-20T14:46:18","date_gmt":"2022-01-20T11:46:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/viktorijos.lt\/istorija\/motusems\/"},"modified":"2026-03-19T16:41:30","modified_gmt":"2026-03-19T13:41:30","slug":"to-moms","status":"publish","type":"istorija","link":"https:\/\/viktorijos.lt\/en\/story\/to-moms\/","title":{"rendered":"To Moms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Midwinter.<br \/>\nChristmas has settled into a cozy drawer of memory.<br \/>\nI can barely make out signs of spring, even if I try.<br \/>\nI don\u2019t celebrate Valentine\u2019s Day.<br \/>\nI quietly mark national holidays in my heart.<\/p>\n<p>I graze my eyes across the expanse of the overcast sky and try to imagine the next upcoming \u201cwaiting.\u201d<br \/>\nTrue, I clutch tickets to the long-awaited mountains in my hand.<br \/>\nBut considering today\u2019s realities, that \u201cwaiting\u201d hangs by a thread.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, all the proper \u201cwaitings\u201d float in the air like elusive, multicolored butterflies\u2026<br \/>\nAnd they are often \u201creplaced\u201d by handily reachable \u201cunwaitings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A cough knocks at the door.<br \/>\nStreams run from a nose, waiting on the windowsill.<br \/>\nA \u201cMom, my stomach hurts\u201d stops by for a visit.<br \/>\nMiss Fever, like a long-awaited guest, drops in and, as if having a great time with us, decides not to leave in a hurry.<\/p>\n<p>You care for them.<br \/>\nYou love them.<br \/>\nYou pamper them.<br \/>\nSit on the edge of the bed.<br \/>\nStroke them with a hand softer than soft.<br \/>\nWrap them in a hug brimming with love.<br \/>\nThey recover.<\/p>\n<p>And just when you think you\u2019ve set everything right again, the fast-moving wheel of life spins once more.<br \/>\nAnd with a sly wink, it says:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, Mom, relaxed now?\u201d<br \/>\nHere\u2019s your \u201cbusywork\u201d for the night.<br \/>\nA turbo night of fevers, cough salvos, or urgent bathroom visits.<br \/>\nI don\u2019t stress.<br \/>\nEven when trying to open an eye narrower than narrow, in the backdrop of yet another unexpectedly arrived morning, I rejoice:<\/p>\n<p>That we, Moms, are from the pages of a bedtime fairy tale read last night.<br \/>\nWe don\u2019t get sick.<br \/>\nWe don\u2019t get tired.<br \/>\nWe forget nothing.<br \/>\nWe administer medicines and mixtures according to a carefully organized, unwritten plan in our heads.<br \/>\nAnd we don\u2019t get it wrong for any assigned child.<\/p>\n<p>We move through the rooms of the house.<br \/>\nChange pajamas.<br \/>\nMake beds.<br \/>\nServe teas.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps we\u2019ve taken acting or medical courses?<br \/>\nMaybe we\u2019ve attended \u201cstress-free\u201d training?<br \/>\nOr \u201cmultitasking\u201d lectures?<\/p>\n<p>Because after tending to our loved ones and putting out the household fires, we sit at the wheel of life and confidently press the \u201cgas\u201d to catch up with its wild pace.<br \/>\nWhich waits for no one:<br \/>\nNot for those caring.<br \/>\nNot for those stroking.<br \/>\nNot for those measuring doses.<\/p>\n<p>And it kicks responsibly, \u201csoftly,\u201d recommending we stop wasting time sighing, pack self-pity into our pockets, lift our noses high, and tell ourselves:<\/p>\n<p>Life is charming because of this.<br \/>\nBecause there are days that don\u2019t go according to plan.<br \/>\nBut\u2026 by the end of those days, you fall asleep in three seconds, not even realizing how it all fit into you.<br \/>\nEvening chamomile tea toast:<\/p>\n<p>To us.<br \/>\nThose who love. Care.
