I\u2019m a lousy \u201cboss.\u201d
\nThroughout my life, I\u2019ve never read a single book on how to properly lead a team.
\nI haven\u2019t attended a single seminar where I was taught how to handle big or small \u201coops\u201d moments.
\nNumbers, math, and all those \u201cdoes it pay off or not\u201d calculations are completely not my strong suit.
\nI think if I were graded on my leadership knowledge, I\u2019d get a fat \u201cF.\u201d<\/p>\n
But here I am\u2026
\nSitting with a bouquet of peony roses, gifted by my team for \u201cBoss\u2019s Day,\u201d and blooming.
\nAnd while blooming, I follow a few \u201cgood business\u201d rules I\u2019ve learned over more than a decade:<\/p>\n
The first one was told to me many years ago by my teacher of calm\u2014my Husband:<\/p>\n
\u201cDon\u2019t close the door with your foot, because tomorrow you may have to open it yourself.\u201d
\nI\u2019ve had to verify the truth of that rule many times.
\nSo when the time came, I handed over the boss\u2019s chair to him with a completely calm heart.
\nThe second one, instilled in me by my Father:<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is no word \u2018I can\u2019t,\u2019 there is the word \u2018I must.\u2019\u201d
\nThe third, which my Sister reminded me of again this morning:<\/p>\n
\u201cTo receive, you must first give.\u201d
\nThe fourth, which I heard and filed in my mind from Anyta:<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen angry, count silently. Up to ten. If that doesn\u2019t help, count to twenty. Saying it is easy. Taking back angry words is hard.\u201d
\nThe fifth\u2014one I realized through long practice is absolutely true:<\/p>\n
\u201cMeasure everything with your heart. And never treat anyone in a way you wouldn\u2019t want them to treat you.\u201d
\nThat\u2019s it.
\nI don\u2019t know anything else about being a \u201cboss.\u201d
