Nine months of waiting are over.<br \/>\nBut we, Mothers, are greedy. We never get enough.<br \/>\nWe keep waiting, until they:<\/p>\n<p>Lift their head.<br \/>\nRoll over.<br \/>\nSit up.<br \/>\nTaste their first porridge.<br \/>\nDon\u2019t spit out that porridge anymore.<br \/>\nStart crawling.<br \/>\nGet the first tooth.<br \/>\nThen the next one.<br \/>\nTake their first steps across the room.<br \/>\nStart walking.<br \/>\nPut together their first words.<br \/>\nForm a sentence.<br \/>\nStart feeding themselves.<br \/>\nSleep through three uninterrupted hours.<br \/>\nSleep through the whole night.<br \/>\nStop chasing whales.<br \/>\nGive up the nighttime potty.<br \/>\nGo to kindergarten.<br \/>\nGo to kindergarten without tears.<br \/>\nDraw their first picture.<br \/>\nDraw Mom.<br \/>\nLearn the numbers.<br \/>\nLearn the letters.<br \/>\nStart putting syllables together.<br \/>\nLearn to brush their teeth by themselves.<br \/>\nLearn to brush their teeth well by themselves.<br \/>\nTidy up their room.<br \/>\nDo it without help.<br \/>\nMake their bed.<br \/>\nGet dressed.<br \/>\nPick clothes appropriate for the weather.<br \/>\nHang their clothes neatly.<br \/>\nTake a shower.<br \/>\nTake a shower without flooding the bathroom.<br \/>\nBrush their hair.<br \/>\nMake breakfast.<\/p>\n<p>Has all this happened? We, Mothers, magical,<br \/>\nWe keep waiting:<\/p>\n<p>Until they learn to ride a bike.<br \/>\nSwim without the \u201cdoggy style.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Until they:<br \/>\nMake friends.<br \/>\nFind hobbies.<br \/>\nGo to school.<br \/>\nRead their first book.<br \/>\nWrite a good essay.<br \/>\nRecite their first free-verse poem.<br \/>\nGo on a week-long camp.<\/p>\n<p>And is that all already enough? Stop.<br \/>\nMothers are special.<br \/>\nThey don\u2019t give up.<br \/>\nAnd continue\u2026<br \/>\nEvery day.<br \/>\nFor many years\u2014<br \/>\nEven though it seems like they\u2019ve already seen it all.<br \/>\nThey wait.<br \/>\nFor those coming home.<br \/>\nAfter a day at school.<br \/>\nAfter a week at camp.<br \/>\nAfter a month of studies.<br \/>\nAfter a year abroad.<br \/>\nThey wait.<br \/>\nThrough successes and failures.<br \/>\nTo be able to hug them tightly.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u2026\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u2026\u2026<\/p>\n<p>And sometimes.<br \/>\nVery rarely.<br \/>\nBetween all the \u201cwaiting,\u201d<br \/>\nThey, no longer babies,<br \/>\nJust fall asleep in our arms. Just as they used to, many years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Back then: your hands would go numb, your back would ache.<br \/>\nYou\u2019d count the minutes in your mind, waiting for deeper sleep so you could safely lay the treasure down in the crib.<br \/>\nYou\u2019d feel frustrated that those big round eyes didn\u2019t hide under their lashes sooner.<br \/>\nYour mind would be full of little thoughts and strategic plans, how to free your hands faster and get back to work.<\/p>\n<p>And now I sit, holding my breath.<br \/>\nNot moving.<br \/>\nNot thinking of any task more important than this moment, and\u2026<br \/>\nWatching such an incredibly rare sight,<br \/>\nI unconsciously whisper in my mind:<br \/>\n\u201cStop, lovely moment.<br \/>\nAnd just stay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Among all the \u201cso many\u201d waitings,<br \/>\nRight now<br \/>\nI am NOT waiting for anything. \u2764<\/p>\n<p>But tomorrow.<br \/>\nI will wait again.<\/p>\n<p>V.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"template":"","class_list":["post-17581","istorija","type-istorija","status-publish","hentry"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/viktorijos.lt\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/istorija\/17581","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/viktorijos.lt\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/istorija"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/viktorijos.lt\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/istorija"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/viktorijos.lt\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=17581"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
