At Grandma\u2019s in the countryside,
\nWhere summer days for visiting grandchildren are sweeter than freshly spun linden honey.
\nWhere, from the faces of berries ripened in the garden, rainbow-like smiles barely manage to tumble out.
\nWhere, after a day full of adventures, once spotless \u201clittle palms\u201d become streaked like zebra stripes\u2026<\/p>\n
Lives Grandpa.
\nHis fingers are big.
\nHands roughened by work.
\n\u201cAnd yet\u201d\u2026<\/p>\n
\u201cLook, Mom, how perfectly he painted my nails,\u201d Pa holds out her little hand, kissed by the village sun.
\nAnd on top, she sprinkled glitter so it would last longer, adds the granddaughter, just back from her beauty routine.
\nI look at those little fingers.
\nAt the tiny nail polish bottle.
\nAt the flour-fine glitter.
\nAnd at Grandpa\u2019s big hands. His roughened fingers.
\nAnd at the large, kind eyes shining with happiness.<\/p>\n
And a thought enters my mind and settles there comfortably:
\nLong live Grandparents.
\nThey are the best thing that could have happened to grandchildren,
\nExperiencing SUCH SUMMERS.
